EDINBURG – The first burst of cold air is a cause for concern for the well-being of the county’s most vulnerable residents. To help address the needs of those residents during plummeting temperatures, the Hidalgo County Community Service Agency has announced the availability of a limited number of space heaters.
The Hidalgo County Heater Distribution program provides a space heater and a smoke detector for families who have no other means of heating their homes. Residents are asked to contact the Community Service Agency and apply for this very specific type of assistance.
Residents will be asked to complete a program application and provide the following:
· Provide proof of income for the last thirty days (income must be at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level)
· Provide identification and proof of residency (via an ID and Birth Certificate for all members of the household)]
· Provide unpaid electrical utility bill (water bill and natural gas as well)
CSA Executive Director Jaime Longoria stated, “Residents who are in need of a space heater or who may have other weather-related needs should reach out to our office. Weather extremes can be difficult for vulnerable family members to endure. We would like to help make this more bearable.”
Heaters are available at the main office located at 2524 N. Closner in Edinburg. Individuals may call (956) 383-6240 for more info.
