The Pharr Community Theater Co., supported by Art Spark Texas through a Quality-of-Life grant from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation will offer free workshop classes to Veterans and Their Families. The workshops will run from May 17, 2021 through June 25, 2021 and will consist of 2 one-hour classes per week for the first ten students that register by May 14.
Mondays and Thursdays, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. will be for Screenwriting; this class will be appropriate for teens & adults. Tuesdays and Fridays, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., will be for Acting; this class will be appropriate for Kids, Teens & Adults, ages 10 & above. Each class will be held online through Zoom, if COVID safety measures permit, some acting classes may be scheduled at Pharr Community Theater, Co. at 213 W Newcombe Ave. Pharr, TX 78577.
“Screenwriting Classes for Veterans and Their Families” will teach you how to develop and format a movie script, build characters, create action, and compelling dialogue to tell your stories. Veterans and military families that take this class may write about military life experiences, in-or-out of service, about family, struggles, dreams, goals, accomplishments, or about other non-military related topics.
“Acting Classes for Veterans and military families” will help you practice from written scenes and improvisation, as well as body movement voice and interpretation. This class for beginners and intermediate learners will teach how actors prepare to play a part and what they need to do it right for believable performances.

Robert Longoria (Screenwriting)
Robert Longoria is a freelance screenwriter and producer who has completed several Film shorts, including “The Monster” and “The Hunt” directed by Johnny Hernandez from Weslaco, TX. Longoria obtained a Bachelors of Arts in English from The University of Texas Pan-American, and he earned a Masters of Arts in English: Rhetoric, Composition, and Literacy Studies in 2018 from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Pedro Garcia (Acting)
Pedro Garcia has been an active member of the Screen Actors Guild since 1994. He has directed and acted in over 150 plays & Films combined since 1987. He’s appeared on Film & TV shows including; Tejano, Queen of the South, Fast & Furious Five, Breaking Bad, Halt & Catch Fire, & Mad Love. Currently he resides in Pharr, TX and is the Artistic Director for the Pharr Community Theater Co. He is also a freelance casting director and filmmaking consultant and can be reached at teatronuestra@hotmail.com.
