PHARR, TX – The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley is excited and honored to announce H-E-B as its 2020 ‘Donor of the Year’. While H-E-B has a storied history of partnering with the Food Bank RGV to serve the community, H-E-B provided even more support than ever before during the past year.

H-E-B held a variety of campaigns over the past 12 months to generously support the hunger relief efforts of Food Bank RGV and Feeding Texas, of which the Food Bank RGV is a proud member. The most recent campaign, ‘Share Your Christmas” was an annual partnership with CBS 4 and Local 23 Valley Central. Due to Covid-19, the campaign was repurposed into solely a monetary fundraiser, of which

H-E-B generously matched every donation made up to $10,000.

H-E-B has significantly contributed to the community with a wide array of food donations, from cereal and bread to the ‘Feast of Sharing’ Meal Simples, distributed through the Food Bank RGV and its partner agencies. In the summer months, the hungriest season of all, H-E-B team members joined Food Bank RGV staff on the distribution frontlines to provide hand sanitizer, gift cards, and other essential items directly to clients.

“The Food Bank RGV is honored to bestow the distinction of ‘Donor of the Year’ for 2020 to our stalwart partners and friends of H-E-B. We truly could not accomplish the life sustaining work of our mission without the diligent, continuous, and innovative action of HEB and their support with food, funds, and as thought partners. On behalf of our entire organization and most importantly those we serve, CONGRATULATIONS.”-Stuart Haniff, CEO

The Food Bank RGV is eternally grateful to have received such tremendous support from our generous donors during the health and financial crisis brought on by Covid-19. Every dollar donated provides up to 5 complete and healthy meals for our neighbors in need, which matter more now than ever. The Food Bank RGV has experienced a 233% increase in demand of clients served since the beginning of the COVID-19 Global Pandemic. Donations received have sustained efforts to continue reinforcing partner agencies across the Rio Grande Valley with food and much needed supplies for clients. To provide additional aid to the community, the Food Bank RGV has also introduced “pop up” mobile produce distributions, throughout the various regions we serve and food deserts, as well as an on-site Drive-thru Emergency Pantry (DTEP) for the general public on Wednesdays from 7am -10am, or until capacity is reached.
