Pharr, Texas – The Food Bank RGV officially kicked off this holiday season on November 30, 2021, with GivingTuesday. This GivingTuesday, The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley hoped to inspire generosity among community members and leaders in its three county service area: Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy counties.

The Food Bank RGV is grateful to announce that an anonymous donor matched every donation made on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, up to $10,000 total. Right now each dollar donated to the Food Bank RGV through their website, will have twice the impact and provide double the number of meals. Normally, every dollar provides up to 5 complete meals, but thanks to the generosity of the anonymous donor, every dollar will now provide up to 10 complete meals for RGV families this holiday.

“We are extremely grateful to our anonymous donor for providing a match that will double the impact for those in need during this holiday season. The past two years have been a challenge for us all so we greatly appreciate everyone who gives to help make the holidays brighter for families throughout the Rio Grande Valley,” said Libby A. Saenz, Food Bank RGV CEO.

Donations received will continue to sustain the Food Bank RGV’s efforts to reinforce their partner agencies across the Rio Grande Valley, with food for clients. Donations will also support various food bank programs such as nutrition education, Veterans only distributions, kid’s café, mobile produce and food pop-ups, and the emergency food pantry.

GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

People demonstrate generosity in many ways on GivingTuesday. Whether it is helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving to causes that support the community, every act of generosity counts. GivingTuesday has raised billions of dollars for critical causes around the world and gets billions of impressions on social media from people and organizations speaking up for the causes that matter to them and encouraging others to get involved in their communities.
