Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reaffirmed his commitment to aiding the Trump administration’s immigration agenda in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The governor outlined his plans to collaborate with President-elect Donald Trump in tackling illegal immigration and emphasized Florida’s readiness to facilitate federal policies.
“President-elect Trump was elected with a mandate to stop illegal immigration and deport illegal aliens already in our country,” DeSantis wrote. He announced that he has called for a special legislative session on January 27, just days after Trump’s inauguration, to secure necessary funding and resources for the effort.
DeSantis’s proposed plan includes:
- Detention Facilities: Enhancing state capacity for housing individuals awaiting deportation.
- Relocation and Transportation: Allocating resources to streamline immigration enforcement processes.
- Local Law Enforcement Support: Boosting funds and infrastructure to support state and local agencies.
- Transportation Infrastructure: Expanding logistical capabilities to meet federal demands.
Shortly after Governor DeSantis posted his statement, President-elect Trump reposted it on TRUTH, his social media platform, adding, “Thank you, Ron. Hopefully, other Governors will follow!” The endorsement underscores Trump’s support for state-level initiatives that align with his administration’s policy priorities.
The upcoming special legislative session will be a crucial test of how Florida positions itself as a key partner in President-elect Trump’s immigration strategy, potentially setting an example for other states to follow.
