The CEO of the Texas Restaurant Association will be touring the culinary facilities at McAllen Memorial High School (101 E. Hackberry Ave.) on Thursday, Aug. 22.
The tour will be from 1:30-2:30 pm.
McAllen ISD uses ProStart culinary curriculum. It is a national industry-based certification for hospitality to include all areas of culinary arts. Students can earn this certification in high school without paying the tuition and other fees if they took the same courses in college. So this saves them time and money.
The CEO, Dr. Emily Williams Knight, oversees Texas ProStart for the state. She will be coming down from Austin to meet with the local RGV Restaurant association members to see how the Texas Restaurant Association can support local education programs.
While she is down in the RGV she wants to tour one of the RGV’s ProStart schools and has selected McAllen ISD’s program to tour.
Part of the Texas Restaurant Association is the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation which advocates for culinary education programs in the State.
The McAllen ISD contact is Ms. Diana Pena, Coordinator for Career Technical Education for McAllen ISD.
