(McAllen, Texas) — This week ERO Architects, the award-winning architectural firm, welcomed international superstar Tony Bennett, and direct from Broadway ELF: The Musical as part of the second full week of quality productions at the newly opened McAllen Performing Arts Center.

Bennett performed last night, Tuesday, December 6, and was the first major acclaimed singer to perform in the 1,828-seat theater, designed by ERO Architects, which opened November 27th with the Tony award-winning production of Annie.

“To see and hear Tony Bennett in the new McAllen Performing Arts Center was a dream come true for many people in South Texas. I know for me,” said Eli Ochoa, president and CEO of ERO Architects. “His legendary singing talent was absolutely enthralling given the modern acoustical treatments we designed for this world-class hall.”

The McAllen Performing Arts Center’s high-quality sound treatments are aided by computer programs which adjust more than 10,000 square feet of acoustic fabric on the walls and ceiling to accentuate performers like Bennett. The interior arches, made of solid pecan wood acoustic reflectors, produce smooth, even sound.

ELF, which plays four shows this weekend on December 10-11, is the tale of Buddy, a young orphan who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts, is transported to the North Pole, and grows up unaware that he is actually human. When Buddy journeys to New York City, he helps the city remember the meaning of Christmas.

The McAllen Performing Arts Center’s eight-story stage is 1.5 times the size of a NBA basketball court and was designed to facilitate the largest Broadway productions.
