WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) introduced the Honor Inauguration Day Act on Monday, legislation that mandates American flags fly at their highest peak each Inauguration Day, which is a day that celebrates the exercising of the will of the people.
“President Biden has decided, for the first time in American history, to fly the flag at half-staff during a successors Inauguration. Meaning, when President Trump is sworn in, the flag will not be fully raised,” De La Cruz said. “Inauguration Day celebrates the will of the American people and their sacred right to vote and determine their own governance. It is not a day for the flag to be at half-staff.”
This bill only applies to the Presidential Inauguration Day and the flag can still be lowered ceremonially on any day before or after at the President’s discretion.
Original co-sponsors are Reps. Brian Bain (TX-36), Randy Weber (TX-14), Pete Sessions (TX-17), Jake Ellzey (TX-06) and Brandon Gill (TX-26).
