Edinburg, Texas – Have you ever wondered what advice you would give to your 10-15-year-old self? Well, thirty young girls were able to hear this message at the Empowering Girls Forum, a series organized by Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV.

Four influential women from different industries and professions openly discussed how they navigated their tween & teen years, overcame obstacles and conquered their insecurities. From growing up poor to the power of authenticity, from education to professionalism, the girls were given the opportunity to listen and be heard.

Judge Rose Guerra Reyna, presented on perseverance and the necessity to get back up when you fall down. Venessa Soto, Child Safety Specialist, focused on the importance of education and how to deal with life choices. She advised the girls to never settle for less.

Advice shared by Linda Tovar from HEB and Edna De Saro from Lone Star National Bank echoed, have a positive outlook, make things happen for yourself, work hard and value your family & friends.

“We are grateful to the panelists for their support and time and we thank our Board of Directors and the Texas Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs for backing programs which connect our girls with successful women,” said Sabrina Walker Hernandez, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV. “Our goal is to increase our girl’s self-esteem and feelings about becoming a strong, independent female and to make them #GirlStrong!
