With an impressive 96 percent graduation rate among its scholars, the VAMOS Scholarship Program stands as a pillar of excellence and support. It uniquely combines financial assistance with mentorship, pairing each scholar with a mentor who provides guidance and encouragement throughout their academic journey. These students, hailing from diverse backgrounds, have graced universities both locally and nationally, carrying the inspiration of the Rio Grande Valley with them.

The scholarship, offering up to $20,000 over four years, is a significant step toward a bachelor’s degree for these ambitious young minds. This opportunity isn’t just about funding; it’s about opening doors to a brighter future and breaking the cycle of economic barriers.

VAMOS’s story began in 1996, born out of a dire need to address the low university graduation rates in the Rio Grande Valley. Since its inception, local business leaders have propelled this initiative, raising an astonishing $25 million in scholarships, and changing the lives of 1,187 students across Cameron, Hidalgo, and Starr counties.

This program is more than just a scholarship; it’s a belief in the transformative power of education. It’s a commitment to the community, a promise of a better future, and a demonstration to the potential within every student.
