EL PASO, Texas – Beginning Thursday, June 29, City of El Paso Animal Services will be offering FREE pet microchipping every day at the main El Paso Animal Services Center located at 5001 Fred Wilson Ave. The Department will also be providing microchip registration (on local databases) and updating, as well as free pet ID tags and collars while supplies last.

The service is an effort to keep more pets at home with their families during the Fourth of July holiday, El Paso Animal Services will be extending microchipping services through next week.

El Paso Animal Services wants to remind the community to keep their pets safe and at home during the Fourth of July holiday by making sure their pets are microchipped and wearing a collar and ID tag, as this time of year always results in more pets running away from home

“The Fourth of July is always one of the scariest times of year for our pets, and we as pet parents need to take every precaution to keep our pets safe and at home with us,” said El Paso Animal Services Director Terry Kebschull. “One in three pets go missing in their lifetime, but pet microchips remain one of the most effective ways of getting pets back home with their families. Taking a few minutes out of your day to get that done will help protect your pet for life.”

The Department would also like to encourage the community that if they find a missing pet in their neighborhood, to take a few extra steps in order to get that pet back home rather than bringing them straight to the shelter. The community can help reunite a lost pet by getting the pet scanned for a microchip at any El Paso Fire Station or vet office, posting the found pet on social media, filing a Found Pet Report with El Paso Animal Services and Petco Love Lost, and walk the pet around the neighborhood where they were found to help locate the pet’s family.
