McAllen ISD had eight students selected following the Region 15 TMEA High School All-Region Jazz Band auditions held recently.
These students include:
- Alyx Garza-Johnson, trumpet, McAllen High
- Angel Trujillo, trumpet, McAllen High
- Mikey Treviño, trumpet, McAllen High
- Sebastian Salinas, bass guitar, McAllen High
- Robert Kohler, bass, McAllen Rowe
- Zander Wasielewski, alto saxophone, Memorial High
- Brandon Pena, piano, Memorial High
- Nathaneal Rivera, trumpet, Memorial High
Rivera qualified to compete for a spot on the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All Area Jazz Band.
In addition, Rowe alto saxophone player Benjamin Guzman earned first alternate status.
“For this competition, only a limited number of students are selected,” McAllen ISD Fine Arts Director Debra Loya said. “These students and their music teachers have been working hard in preparation for this audition. Congratulations to these very talented and hard-working musicians.”
According to TMEA’s website, TMEA sponsors the Texas All-State audition process to promote students’ dedication to their musical knowledge and skill and to encourage educators to support their students in this development. Each fall, more than 70,000 high school students across the state audition in their TMEA Region.
