House District 40 constituents, who are served by Rep. Terry Canales, D-Edinburg, featured center, now have a new local legislative district office to go for help on a wide range of concerns or to influence the passage of new laws and state policies, the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation has announced.

In addition, Edinburg citizens, business and community leaders, and potential investors from throughout Texas and beyond will be served on jobs-creation, economic development, and business growth measures at the EEDC’s new headquarters, located at 101 North 10th Avenue, across from the Hidalgo County Courthouse.

Canales’ District Office is located in the EEDC’s new 6,500-square foot complex, which is designed to showcase Edinburg as a South Texas leader for economic prosperity and legislative influence, said Mayor Richard García, who serves as president of the EEDC Board of Directors. “In relocating the EEDC office from its longtime presence at the Edinburg Depot, we had several goals in mind, including continuing to improve our downtown by renovating one of the key existing buildings in the region,” said the mayor.

“In the months and several years to come, we are going to see dramatic upgrades of our city, such as from East University Drive to West University Drive. With those changes will come more jobs and prosperity that will benefit the entire community.” The EEDC and Canales announced that their two offices would have a joint grand opening ceremony on Thursday, February 6, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Canales said his District Office would continue its grand opening ceremony through 6 p.m. that day.
