The 14th Annual State of Real Estate Forum will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance located at 118 Paseo Del Prado. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast included and the program will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Over 250 real estate industry professionals, civic and business leaders attend the Forum annually. There is no cost to attend the Forum, however reservations are required.
Dr. Ted C. Jones, Senior Vice President-Chief Economist for Stewart Title Guaranty Company and Director of Investor Relations for Stewart Information Services Corporation (NYSE-STC) will headline the Forum as the keynote speaker as he has for the past twelve years. He will provide insight and statistics on the national, state and local job markets and specific local real estate market analysis and various other indicators that affect the Valley’s economy.
Dr. Jones posted on his blog recently that jobs are the number one driver of the economy. “Jobs are everything to an economy. Period.” He went on to say “So goes the number of jobs, so goes (in general) the demand for housing, commercial real estate and the overall performance of the economy. Naturally other factors such as taxes (or the lack-thereof), location, natural resources and external factors alter all of this, but the ultimate measure is jobs, followed by incomes.” said Dr. Jones.
“The same is true when it comes to housing. As I had repeatedly said, there are only three types of people that do not need a job to own a home: gray haired, blued haired or people without hair – retirees. Almost everyone else needs a job. Markets with strong job gains no doubt correspond with robust demand for real estate and related services”, he added.
