The State of Real Estate Forum is the premier event and program produced by Edwards Abstract and Title Company. Dr. Ted C. Jones, Ph.D., a national economist, and Pedro R. Alvarez, P.E., the Pharr District Engineer with TxDOT headlined the 18th Annual State of Real Estate Forum that took place on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at the McAllen Convention Center.
Byron Lewis, C.E.O. of Edwards Abstract, introduced Dr. Jones, who earned a PhD in finance with a minor in statistics and a Master of Land Economics and Real Estate degree from Texas A&M University. Additionally, he also holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University.
The Real Estate Forum takes place every year and it is sponsored by Edwards Abstract and Title Co. and Dr. Jones serves as the keynote speaker. Dr. Jones is the chief economist and senior vice president for Stewart Title based in Houston. He drives Stewart’s ongoing financial analysis and applied real estate research. His expertise is well established among stockholders, associates, and customers.
During his career, Dr. Jones has completed numerous mass-appraisal assignments, including more than $3 billion of income-producing property owned by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, retails properties, hotels, motels, offices, commercial land, multi-family housing, residences, and special-use properties. On another note, South Texas College announced its latest partnership agreement, launching a Certified Customs Specialist Certification to be facilitated by the National Customs Brokers Forwarders Association of America (NCBFAA) Educational Institute.
At a special ceremony, South Texas College president Dr. Ricardo J. Solis signed the official partnership agreement and participated in a program ribbon cutting with NEI that begins recruitment efforts for students.
“We are driven by creativity, innovation and responsiveness,” Solis told attendees at the event. “We are now clearly uniting our forces to be able to combat what’s taking place in this whole global market. We know we are challenged by supply chains, just-in-time inventory, off-shoring, and most importantly lack of skilled personnel, which we have seen in every industry. This is a perfect example of how a certificate, in this case one for a Customs Specialist, can clearly send a message saying this is what it’s going to take to meet the needs of industry and especially the growth needs of the Valley.
