The City of Edinburg is pleased to announce Ashly Custer will join our team as Director of Communications and Media. She started Monday, November 16.
As one of Texas’ fastest growing cities with a population of more than 100,000 residents, Edinburg is home to many thriving businesses, parks, neighborhood developments, entertainment and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Not only has the National Civic League recognized Edinburg as an All-America City three times, but former Texas Governor Rick Perry has also designated it as a “Hometown of Heroes” for the number of courageous men and women who have heroically answered our nation’s call of duty including those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice to protect American values and freedom.
“I’m humbled to have been given this opportunity to serve the citizens of a city as prosperous as Edinburg. I have always believed that knowledge is power. As a journalist, I loved being able to advocate for the Rio Grande Valley community and being able to raise awareness about issues that directly impacted local families and taxpayers. As an Edinburg city employee, I am dedicated to keeping its residents and the media well-informed of initiatives, community events, economic progress and much more. I want the residents to feel empowered and connected to their city government,” said Custer.
She most recently served as Rio Grande City’s Public Relations/Public Information Officer and brings years of broadcast journalism experience to the department as she previously worked as a news an award-winning reporter for KSAT, KGBT and KRGV. Custer has both a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Political Science/Public Law from the University of California San Diego. She is also currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Finance.
