The City of Edinburg will serve as a host city for the Rio Grande Valley Navy Week, scheduled for January 24–31, as the United States Navy brings more than 70 Sailors to the region for a week of public performances, educational outreach, and community service.

Navy Week is a national outreach program designed to connect communities without a major naval presence to the Navy’s mission and personnel. Throughout the week, Edinburg will host several signature ceremonies and performances honoring military service and local heritage. Additional Navy Week events will take place across the Rio Grande Valley, including Mission, McAllen, and Brownsville.
A highlight of Navy Week in Edinburg includes participation by Sailors from the USS Gonzalez (DDG 66), named in honor of Medal of Honor recipient and Edinburg native Sgt. Alfredo “Freddie” Gonzalez. Sailors will take part in memorial events recognizing Sgt. Gonzalez and his family, underscoring the city’s longstanding ties to naval service and military history.

Edinburg-hosted Navy Week events include:
- Wreath Laying Ceremony
Petty Officer Jose Saenz Memorial Light Post
January 26 at 1:00 p.m. - Navy Week Proclamation and Bienvenida
Edinburg Arts, Culture, and Events (ACE) Center
January 26 at 6:00 p.m. - Navy Band and Ceremonial Guard Performance
Edinburg Municipal Auditorium
January 27 at 6:00 p.m. - STEM Activities and Book Reading
