EDINBURG – The Edinburg Rotary Club recently presented honored the Migrant Education Program from the  Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District.

“I want to thank the Rotary Club for allowing us to present. It was such a special moment, because we had our top migrant students from each of the high schools share a little story,” ECISD Migrant Coordinator Patricio Escamilla said. “It was impressive to hear some of their stories.”

The students’ recognition is part of the Edinburg Rotary’s Student of the Month Program, which highlights two senior students from each high school during the Rotary’s luncheon meeting. As they accept their awards, the students each give a speech about their accomplishments and future plans.

The Migrant Education Program is aimed at informing students and their families about the many educational programs available at Edinburg CISD. Some of the programs available to the migrant students include assistance with obtaining concurrent enrollment and dual credit courses, participation in Advanced Placement (AP) classes, and support with taking entrance exams.

“Our counselors are very special. They guide our students well,” Escamilla said. “We want to make sure they get to graduate, get to the honors classes and get to the AP opportunities for them to excel at college.”

The Edinburg Rotary recognized the following students:

  • Edinburg High School senior Grecia Denyz Trevino
  • Edinburg High School senior Raul Solis III
