EDINBURG, Texas — As the weekend approaches, The City of Edinburg encourages residents to be aware of Mother Nature and what is expected to be a wet weekend. According to the National Weather Service in Brownsville, more rain is expected Friday and Saturday. Warning Coordination Meteorologist Barry Goldsmith predicts some areas may receive several inches of rain meaning a chance for ponding or high standing water in poor drainage areas.

Goldsmith warns against lightning which could be prevalent especially during the late morning to mid-afternoon on Friday. Fans attending football games should be aware that they could be drenched due to possible heavy rainfall.

Saturday should be pretty much a repeat of Friday. We may get a break on Sunday with a possibility of a few hit and miss thunderstorms.

The City of Edinburg encourages all residents to keep abreast of the weather and to be prepared should actions need to be taken.

Before the rain begins residents are encouraged to: check the tire pressure on their vehicles; check wiper blades; fill up gas tanks; avoid driving through standing water; and remain indoors if there is lightning.

Should ponding occur in Edinburg, the Public Information Department will post affected streets and or areas on the City’s website and social media sites.
