EDINBURG, TX – Edinburg Police have arrested a second suspect in connection with a major intoxication assault and racing incident that occurred early Sunday morning, March 16, 2025.
According to authorities, the incident began around 3:12 a.m. when officers responded to reports of a major rollover crash at the 1800 block of North Sugar Road. Upon arrival, police found a 1992 Ford Mustang involved in a rollover accident, with the passenger, 22-year-old Faith Gonzalez, ejected from the vehicle. Gonzalez sustained injuries but is expected to recover.
The driver, identified as 21-year-old Juan Carlos Contreras, was initially arrested at the scene for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and Intoxication Assault. Contreras is also under investigation for alleged street racing related to the accident.
Further investigation by the Edinburg Police Traffic Division revealed a second vehicle involved in the racing incident. Authorities subsequently identified the driver of this vehicle as 23-year-old Jorge Hugo Contreras, cousin of the first suspect.
On Monday morning, March 17, after an extensive investigation, officers took Jorge Hugo Contreras into custody. He was formally arraigned on charges related to racing, and his bond was set at $50,000.
