Upon arrival, officers initiated a search for Rodriguez. Shortly thereafter, Edinburg Police Dispatch received additional reports of a male matching the same description threatening individuals with a firearm in the 2700 block of W. University Dr. Officers located Rodriguez, who immediately fled on foot, heading south from the area.
During the foot pursuit, he attempted to evade capture by jumping into a canal and fleeing eastbound. While evading, Rodriguez was allegedly observed discarding various objects. Officers pursued and successfully apprehended him, recovering a loaded Springfield Armory 9mm pistol, cocaine with packaging paraphernalia, and other narcotics.
A total of nine victims reported being threatened by the armed suspect.
