Edinburg, TX—The Edinburg Police Department will host the first session of its inaugural Teen Police Academy on Monday, June 24, 2024, and media members are invited to learn more about the department’s newest initiative mid-week.
The program, aimed at facilitating a positive relationship with the community’s youth as they foster an interest in a career in law enforcement, will give City of Edinburg high school students entering the 10th, 11th, or 12th grades during the 2024-2025 school year an opportunity to participate in several hands-on activities. Participants will engage in core police functions, such as patrol, special operations, and crime scene investigation, free of charge.
Media availability will be held at the CPL Derek Hernandez Police Training Facility on Tuesday, June 25, and Wednesday, June 26, 2024. News organizations will be able to film and photograph the following activities:
- Tuesday, June 25:
- Mock Traffic Stops – 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
- Handcuffing Techniques – 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
- Wednesday, June 26:
- Crime Scene – 10:20 a.m. to 12 p.m.
