EDINBURG, Texas – Throughout March, the Edinburg PD launched impactful campaigns focusing on DWI enforcement, including Operation Safe Springbreak and Make-A-Plan, in collaboration with TxDOT’s Spring Break Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) wave. From March 4 to March 24, 2024, the Edinburg Police Department had a total of 46 DWI arrests, underscoring the seriousness of the issue.

This enforcement effort took a particularly urgent turn on Saturday, March 23, 2024, just before 9 p.m., when an alleged drunk driver at the intersection of W. University Dr. and Pin Oak Rd rear-ended an Edinburg police officer’s unit. Thanks to the vigilance of a good samaritan who alerted the officer to the approaching swerving vehicle, the suspect was quickly identified as 58-year-old Nicolas Garcia Dominguez of Edinburg. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and minor damage occurred to the unit. Following the investigation, Garcia was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and subsequently arraigned for Driving While Intoxicated (Class B), with a cash surety bond set at $5,000. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of planning ahead and driving responsibly. Whether it’s during holidays or any other time of year, the Edinburg PD remains committed to ensuring the safety of our community. Make a plan to get home safely!
