Edinburg Texas: After an extensive search Edinburg City Manager Ramiro Garza Jr. has named Joe Filoteo Jr. as the new Parks & Recreation Director. Filoteo has more than 36 years of coaching experience having started his career at Connally Jr. High School in Waco, Texas.
Most recently, he served as Athletic Director for the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District. Prior to his work as athletic director, Mr. Filoteo served as Varsity Head Basketball Coach at Edinburg High School for 25 years. Filoteo is the most succesful coach at Edinburg High with a 553-130 won-loss record.
Filoteo graduated from Waco High School in 1973. He obtained a Bachelor of Science from Baylor University in Waco and a Master’s Degree from the University of Texas Pan American.
As athletic director he was part of the delegation that initiated bringing Regional UIL Tournaments of Boys and Girls Golf, Basketball, Volleyball and Soccer to the Rio Grande Valley. He was awarded the 2011 Athletic Director of the Year for the City of Palms Clinic; served as UIL Regional Director for Region IV-5A Boys and Girls Golf, Volleyball, Basketball tournaments from 2010-2014; and was inducted into the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
