Edinburg, Texas — The City of Edinburg has selected Blackboard Connect, a leading mass notification system, to expedite important information and emergency notices to residents.

The Edinburg Notification System will allow officials to stay connected with residents and efficiently provide them with direction should the need arise.  Using this system, officials can record and send an unlimited number of personalized voice messages to home phones, local agencies, and mobile phones in just minutes.  The service also sends email and text messages.  Messages can also be sent to TTY/TDD devices for people who are hearing impaired.

Mayor Richard H. Garcia says keeping the community informed is one of the best resources to keep people safe.  “This will allow us to communicate with the entire City in just a few minutes helping save valuable time while allowing us to use resources efficiently and protect our community.”

Additionally, The Edinburg Notification System will allow officials to target specific areas via the systems geo-mapping and group subscription features to contact residents based on specific geographical locations and interests, helping ensure recipients relevant, targeted information.

Mayor Garcia says this will allow residents to receive the information that matters most to them whether it’s an urgent situation or routine community update.

Publicly available primary residential and business phones in Edinburg will automatically be included in the system.  However, to ensure the City of Edinburg has the most-up-to-date contact information, including cell phone numbers and email addresses, residents should visit www.cityofedinburg.com and click on the link that says “The Edinburg Notification System,” and provide their complete contact information.  Users should also manage their message preference by indicating their preferred mode of contact, language and message topics.
