EDINBURG – Today, multiple agencies responded to a fire at 3101 S. Closner, Edinburg, Texas, the site of a Hidalgo County storage facility. The facility was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

The building previously served as the Hidalgo County Jail and, since decommissioning as a jail facility, has been utilized as an archived document and surplus property storage site for multiple Hidalgo County departments.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The extent of the damage and departments affected is being assessed.

“We are thankful for all the first responders who came to our assistance during Hidalgo County’s time of need. I am very happy that no injuries were reported, but as we celebrate the holidays, let us all keep in mind the importance of fire safety,” said Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez.

The City of Edinburg and Hidalgo County Fire Marshal will be handling the investigation jointly.
