Edinburg Texas ­­— The City of Edinburg congratulates City Manager Ramiro Garza Jr. on his selection as the 2015 Chairman of the Rio South Texas Economic Council. Rio South Texas is a regional economic development organization made up of cities, economic development corporations and other business entities formed to promote and attract companies to the region.

Garza, who was named City Manager in 2009, previously was the head of the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation. He has served on the board of the Texas Economic Development Council, Workforce Solutions Board, Interstate 69 State Advisory Committee, board member of the Women’s Business Center, director of the Texas Lyceum Organization and Liaison with the UT System for UT-RGV Medical School on behalf of Hidalgo County.

As City Manager he is responsible for more than 700 employees and oversees a $100 million operational budget. He also continues to work closely with the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation having collaborated in recruiting new economic development projects that will boost the City’s economy by more than $1.2 billion.

As Chairman of the Rio South Texas Economic Council, Garza plans on working together with communities throughout the Rio Grande Valley in promoting the region as one area and increasing the number of members on the economic council.
