EDINBURG – The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees named Dr. Mario H. Salinas as the sole finalist for the superintendent position during a Special Called Board Meeting on Monday.

“I am honored and humbled to be named the sole finalist to lead this great school district,” Salinas said. “I am aware of the enormity and significance of this position. The decisions that we make can affect the lives of students. It is my responsibility to make sure that the decisions we make as a team will have a lasting positive impact on the lives of all students attending Edinburg CISD. I look forward to continuing to serve the students, parents, teachers, staff, and the entire school community that I have come to know as my family.”

For over 30 years, Dr. Salinas has worked in various capacities for Edinburg CISD, including high school science teacher, head varsity basketball coach, assistant principal, and principal at Edinburg North High School for almost 10 years. Since 2005, he has served in his current position as Assistant Superintendent for Support Services.

Dr. Salinas has served on various boards, including the Edinburg Rising Stars Foundation, the Hidalgo County Head Start, Edinburg Boys and Girls Club, and the City of Edinburg 10-K Run.

State law requires a 21-day waiting period before the Board can hire Dr. Salinas as the Superintendent of Schools. Interim Superintendent Gilbert Garza Jr. will assist with the transition until then.
