EDINBURG – The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District recently received a donation of 20,000 N-95 face masks from one of its parents and business owners.
“We did it for the safety of our kids and for the safety of anyone that walks on campus,” said Juan Mena, co-owner of Rio Wireless. “My kids, the teachers and everyone around campus will be safe.”
Three of Mena’s daughters attend Edinburg CISD schools, which is why he said he donated the masks to the District. His company provided additional masks to other nearby school districts.
“On behalf of the Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees, teachers, students and staff, I want to thank Juan Mena and his business partner, Marco Sanchez, for their generous donation of 20,000 face masks,” said ECISD Interim Superintendent Gilbert Garza Jr. “Their charitable gift will be used to help support our District as we reopen for the 2020-2021 school year.”
Mena said that he hopes the donation of the masks will help the District’s continued efforts to ensure that all children and staff are healthy and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
