EDINBURG – The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District recently hosted the 2019 Leadership Academy as it prepared to welcome back its students for the upcoming school year.
“We have a group of great leaders at Edinburg CISD,” said ECISD Interim Superintendent Gilbert Garza Jr. “A lot of them were here when I left about 10 years ago. I’m really happy to see the experienced faces and the legends that are still here with us.”
More than 250 campus administrators and department heads attended the four-day Leadership Academy, which was held at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance.
“There are many training sessions at the Leadership Academy, so that we can share the same message with all of the staff at Edinburg CISD,” said ECISD Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dahlia Guzman. “There are trainings on risk management, dangers of social media, accountability, and of course curriculum and instruction.”
Garza announced that the theme for this school year will be “Connecting Families, Communities and Schools.”
“I’m looking forward to meeting with our students for this new year and our parents, and making that connection with family and school,” said Avila Elementary School Principal Susana Aguilar. “I’m also excited about our new interim superintendent, Gilbert Garza, who has been guiding us into this new school year.”
“I’m very excited to start the new year working with the administrative team, the teachers, the staff and support staff, to get our kids ready for this coming year,” Longoria Middle School Principal Antonio Ballesteros said. “We are very excited to get to meet our new incoming sixth graders and their parents, and getting involved in the community throughout the year.”
“I am looking forward to an outstanding year with our teachers with our students and our parents,” said De La Viña Elementary School Principal Erika Playle. “We have a lot of things planned with the district. We are having the prekindergarten (Pre-K) program full day, so that’s going to be something different and something new for us.”
This school year, Edinburg CISD is offering a new free full-day prekindergarten program for all students, who are at least 4 years old on or before September 1, 2019.
The first day of school for students is Aug. 26. For more information on Edinburg CISD’s Pre-K program, call (956) 289-2300.
