EDINBURG – The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District recently hosted a Fall Technology Academy, focusing on how to use the cloud-based Microsoft Office 365 software.

The Edinburg CISD Technology Department organized the event, which was held in the district’s Information Technology Building in Edinburg.

“The Technology Academy is for all of our principals, assistant principals, curriculum assistants, deans, directors, specialists and coordinators across the district who are learning about Office 365 apps in the cloud,” said ECISD Assistant Superintendent for Technology Services Eduardo J. Moreno. “The training is for administrators by administrators.”

Two of the administrators who provided the training for the program, included Harwell Middle School Principal Marissa Garza and Longoria Middle School Curriculum Assistant Hilda Alejandro.

“They are doing an outstanding job of sharing best practices on how they are using Office 365 in their school and how they are being very successful with it,” Moreno said.

ECISD Technology Integration Specialist Gina Alamia said that the training gives administrators the opportunity to become digital learners and take ownership of the implementation of the software program.

“The administrators make sure that it gets disseminated across their campus in a great way and what better way than to lead by example with them leading the way,” Alamia said.

During the training, administrators learned that one of the advantages of using the cloud-based Office 365 was being able to share documents that they created with anyone.

“I’m so excited to be here, because one of the opportunities that Edinburg CISD has made is to bring in administrators to present and share how they are using Microsoft Office 365 to us,” said Miguel Guhlin, a Microsoft certified master trainer with the Texas Computer Education Association.
