EDINBURG, Texas —The Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees approved their 2023-2024 Compensation Plan based on years of experience for Teachers, Nurses and Librarians Tuesday evening.

Starting salary for Teachers, Nurses and Librarians will be $57,250. The starting pay for Bus Drivers will increase to $19 an hour. That makes Edinburg CISD teachers the Highest paid in South Texas. Veteran teachers will also see an increase in pay this coming year.

Teachers with 0-4 years of experience will receive a                  $600 pay increase. 
 
Teachers with 5-9 years of experience will receive a                  $1,200 pay increase.
 
Teachers with 10-14 years of experience will receive a             $1,800 pay increase.
 
Teachers with 15-19 years of experience will receive a               $2,100 pay increase.
 
Teachers with 20+ years of experience will receive a                $2,400 pay increase.

That makes Edinburg CISD teachers the Highest paid in South Texas. All full time ECISD employees can also look forward to receiving a $500 midyear retention stipend in December.

Board members pointed out that the District currently has an excellent Employee Benefits package for all full time staff. ECISD total employer contributions per month toward employee benefits is $668 (or an average of $8,000 a year).

ECISD Board President Carmen Gonzalez said she wanted veteran teachers to know they are valued. “This is very important for our teachers who have been working for our district for years. Wewant them to know how much we appreciate them and thank them for all they do. This is our way of recognizing and respecting the work they do with our boys and girls every day and we want them to be happy coming to work,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez added that the board agreed the focus had to be on teachers and letting them know that they are the future of our District.

“We want everyone in our community and especially our employees to know that ECISD is the Place to Be!” she said

Dr. Mario Salinas, Superintendent of Schools, said teachers are the most valuable resource for ourschool district and this compensation plan reflects that. “Teachers are the MVP’s in our district and we want them to know we support them and appreciate everything they do.”

Dr. Salinas said the final budget for the upcoming school year will be approved later this summer by the Board of Trustees.

“At this time we are waiting on news from the State Legislature so that we can finalize the compensation package for the rest of our staff.”
