EDINBURG –  The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District recently announced that the 2019-2020 District Elementary Teacher of the Year is Michelle Hope Frazier and the District Secondary Teacher of the Year is Delia Perez.

Frazier is a third-grade teacher at Magee Elementary School and Perez is an Advanced Placement U.S. Government and Politics teacher at Economedes High School.

“I’m just so excited and I just feel really honored,” Frazier said. “I wasn’t expecting it. It’s just wonderful.”

During her early years of teaching, Frazier said that her drive and determination led her to write curriculum, become a trainer of trainers and earn prestigious Teacher of the Year awards.

In fact, this is Frazier’s second time to receive the title of District Teacher of the Year.  She previously earned the title back in 2006.

When asked what advice she would offer her fellow teachers, Frazier said “be dedicated and just remember that you are there for the students and just to give everything that you have.”

Perez is part of the Economedes Early College High School Program, which prepares students for higher education. She has dedicated 21 years of her life to public education, including 13 years in the classroom.

“It’s really great after all these years to receive this honor, especially in a district like Edinburg CISD that does such amazing things and has such wonderful people working for the district,” Perez said.  “It feels really special to receive this award.”

Perez and Frazier will now advance to the Teacher of the Year regional competition.

“I hope I can represent the district well at the regional level and hopefully on to the state level,” Perez said.
