Edinburg – On Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 11:30 am-1:00 pm, the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce (ECOC) Public Affairs Committee, headed by Veronica Gonzales (Edinburg Chamber Board Member – Vice Chair) and Letty Gonzalez (ECOC- President) will present a Public Affairs Luncheon featuring an Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District Board Candidate forum.
This November, eight candidates are vying for four spots on the Edinburg CISD. All eight running for Edinburg CISD School Board seats Place 1, 2, 3 and 5 will attend the forum. Candidates include Mike Balderas (Place 2), Steven Cruz (Place 3), Letty Garcia (Place 3), Lonnie Guerrero (Place 5), Sonny Palacios (Place 1- Incumbent), Oscar Salinas (Place 2- Incumbent), Xavier Salinas (Place 5- Incumbent) and Dominga Vela (Place 1). “Our school district is closely linked with our city development,” said Letty Gonzalez, President of the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce. “They are one of our largest institutions and employ so many of our citizens which make them an invaluable partner to our economy and organization.”
The Public Affairs Luncheons are an initiative introduced in 2006, and since then have covered popular topics with speakers that cover important community and legislative issues. The vision is to inform, involve and educate chamber investors and civic leaders. The event also allows business professionals to meet, network and create opportunities for the companies they represent.
Cost to attend the luncheon is $25 per person or $250 for a table of 8 and includes a hot lunch, beverage, and dessert. The luncheon will take place at Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance located at 118 Paseo Del Prado in Edinburg.
