The City of Edinburg made it’s 8th revision to a local disaster order as the state moves to reopen Texas for business.

Beginning Monday, May 18, local gyms and exercise facilities can open for business following strict guidelines that include operating at 25% capacity and making sure clients keep a safe distance from one another.

“We know some people are ready to get back to business,” said Mayor Richard Molina. “We have amended our local order to align with Phase 2 of Governor Abbott’s order to reopen Texas but we want to make sure it’s done safely. Our compliance team will continue to provide help to businesses and make certain that our community’s health and safety come first.”

Included in the amendment are requirements such as mandatory sanitation of equipment after each use, people staying six feet apart, and keeping showers and locker rooms closed.

“It’s the 8th amendment to our order and we know more changes are coming next week,” Mayor Molina said.  “The Governor has announced a press conference on Monday and we fully expect to see more changes. We are asking our residents to do their part and follow the guidelines so we can keep our city safe.”

The new order was signed today and goes into effect Monday, May 18, 2020 at 12:01 am.
