PHARR, TEXAS – On September 5, 2019, the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD School Board of Trustees named Dr. Jorge Luis Arredondo the “Lone Finalist” for the position of Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Arredondo has served in high level positions such as Assistant Superintendent, Area Superintendent, and School Support Officer, among other positions, including teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal, with the Houston Independent School District. Houston ISD has an enrollment of 210,000 students and it is the largest school district in the state.
“I am honored to be named the lone finalist for the position of superintendent. I am looking forward to working closely with board trustees, teachers and staff, students, families, and others in the tri-city region to build on the considerable strengths of this district and community to provide students the best educational experience possible on their path to colleges and careers,” stated Dr. Arredondo.
The PSJA School Board followed a meticulous process to create a candidate profile, recruit, interview, and ultimately select the superintendent.
“The board worked extremely hard to ensure we selected the most qualified person for the position,” stated Jesse Zambrano, PSJA ISD School Board President. “Dr. Arredondo is highly qualified and well regarded by his peers.”
The consultants and attorneys tasked with guiding the PSJA ISD School Board through this process all agreed that Dr. Arredondo is “extremely qualified and his references were extremely positive on his ability to work with many stakeholders, including board members, civic leaders, community members, teachers, administrators, and staff.”
Dr. Daniel P. King stated the following about his future successor.
“I would like to thank our Board for the time and effort they put into selecting the candidate to be the next Superintendent of PSJA ISD,” he said. “Dr. Arredondo has an impressive track record, and I look forward to seeing him work with our Board and the entire PSJA Family to take this district to even greater levels of excellence. I ask all our employees and the entire PSJA community to join me in welcoming and supporting him.”
