I know that this year has gone very fast, even faster than others, so it seems. I hope that all of you have accomplished everything you’ve set out to do in 2015. If not, there is always hope you can try again with new plans in this coming 2016.
Texas Border Business is proud to bring to you the Exclusive interview with Dr. Ambrosio “Amos” Hernandez. He was elected mayor of the City of Pharr this year. His political campaign became one of the most interesting in recent years. He came out to challenge a political establishment that fought unsuccessfully to retain power.
Get to know more about how Dr. Hernandez, the Mayor of Pharr, has accomplished extraordinary things in just a few months. One of them is working with a commission as a unified entity with all the transparency which is appropriate in a city government.
In this issue, get to read and know more about Manolo Sánchez, BBVA Compass Chairman & CEO, a different banker that understands banking from different perspectives. He is a polyglot; he speaks five languages — Spanish, English, French, German and Arabic. Knowing several languages has given him the opportunity to do what only a few in the industry can do, understand domestic and global banking.
Also, read about Texas Governor Greg Abbott who highlighted the importance of the region when he visited the Rio Grande Valley precisely when the RGV Legislative Tour was underway.
What a great opportunity we had to talk again with a creator of flavors. The expertise that Francisco ‘Pancho’ Ochoa, Sr. uses in running multiple restaurants comes out of more than 40 years’ experience. Coming from humble beginnings, he started his business from scratch. There is no parallel in South Texas of a family such as this.
The Ochoa family runs three successful food concepts with multiple locations on both sides of the border. Pancho is the patriarch of a family that understands and nurtures unity and hierarchy among themselves and in their company.
On another note, Harlingen, Texas is a City that is no longer just sitting quietly. The City with its leadership under Mayor Chris Boswell has climbed to a new heights attracting key businesses and industries that place the City in a unique position of transformation.
Today, Harlingen is on par with the rest, their strategic moves have landed large business entities placing them at the top as a competitive city to watch.
You will also get to read about Aranda & Associates, Inc. of McAllen. In late 2014, Aranda & Associates brought their new tech to town, a new technology called LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging), which uses lightning-quick lasers to measure the elevation not only of the topography but of anything above ground. They are changing the world.
Also get to read again about Julian Alvarez, a giant that is always willing to serve. Anyone who has met Alvarez and seen him in action will attest to the truth of these words. Alvarez is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership, an association of leaders that dates back to 1944. To be exact, it was 71 years ago when Lloyd Bentsen, Sr. became the first Chairman of what we now know as The Rio Grande Valley Partnership Chamber of Commerce.
