MERCEDES – Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Library was selected as the recipient for the Jeanette & Jim Larson Mystery Grant. They competed against other libraries in Texas to receive the grant of $500. This grant allowed the library to purchase new mystery titles to add to their Adult Fiction collection.
The Jeanette & Jim Larson Grant is available through the Texas Library Association and is awarded to one library annually. The announcement was made at the Texas Library Association Annual Conference on April 23rd. The grant funds were used to purchase 34 new mystery titles.
“We are so grateful for receiving this grant,” Vidales said. “It could not have come at a better time for us. Prior to the pandemic we had removed hundreds of outdated titles from our fiction collection that were in poor condition and suddenly we were unable to replace them. Being awarded the grant was a blessing that allowed us to not only get new titles but also to concentrate on some of the favorite authors and definitely the favorite genre of the majority of our patrons.”
All new titles will be available to the public for checkout starting Friday, May 7th. If you wish to reserve a copy of a specific title, please call the library at (956) 565-2371.
