Dr. Bonnie De La Rosa Villarreal said her career in dentistry has been shaped by persistence, experience, and a commitment to leadership. She shared those remarks during a Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas Rio Grande Valley event honoring women professionals.

De La Rosa Villarreal, a Harlingen native, has practiced dentistry for more than 25 years and owns Rio Vista Dentistry. According to her introduction at the event, she has served in leadership roles across civic, healthcare, and education organizations and has received multiple community and lifetime achievement recognitions.

During her remarks, she described her current practice as an all-female team, including multiple doctors and staff members. “I am the owner of a dental practice in Harlingen, and I employ 20 females,” she said, noting that the practice includes three additional doctors.

She said her path to ownership included working alongside male counterparts earlier in her career. Reflecting on that experience, she said expectations often differed. “I have worked in the same profession, same degree… but like they say at one time, and they just expect it to get done, I have to say at 10,” she said, describing the additional effort she believes was required.

De La Rosa Villarreal said that over time, experience has shaped both her leadership approach and workplace environment. She said her team’s satisfaction reflects the effort invested in building the practice. “My team has never been happier,” she said, adding that the outcome is tied to consistent effort. “That extra hard work and grit matter.”

She also encouraged other women to pursue leadership roles and support one another professionally. Her remarks aligned with the event’s broader focus on mentorship, collaboration, and the importance of creating opportunities for future generations.

De La Rosa Villarreal said she values working alongside other women leaders in the region and expressed interest in supporting initiatives tied to scholarships and mentorship programs. She noted that collaboration across communities can strengthen impact, particularly in the Rio Grande Valley.

Her comments presented dentistry not only as a profession but also as a platform for leadership and mentorship. By combining clinical work with business ownership, she described a career built through long-term commitment and adaptability.

Throughout her remarks, De La Rosa Villarreal emphasized effort and perseverance as central to professional growth. She framed success as the result of sustained work rather than immediate outcomes, encouraging others to continue developing their careers despite challenges.
