Mega Doctor News recently had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Angela Lomas, a highly skilled Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgeon at DHR Health Brownsville. Dr. Lomas was present at unveiling the da Vinci 5 surgical system, a groundbreaking technology that marks a new era of precision in surgical care. DHR Health Brownsville is the first hospital in South Texas to house this advanced system, and Dr. Lomas was among the first to test the equipment, eagerly integrating it into her practice.
Dr. Angela Lomas, originally from Houston, Texas, brings six years of practice experience to her new role in Brownsville, where she has recently relocated. Her journey into medicine began early, inspired by her family’s encouragement to pursue higher education. “I knew I wanted to be a doctor as early as the eighth grade,” Dr. Lomas recalls. “But it wasn’t until medical school that I discovered my passion for surgery, particularly bariatric surgery.”
Dr. Lomas earned her biology degree from the University of North Texas and attended medical school at Texas A&M. She completed her residency in Edinburg, Texas, where she specialized in bariatric surgery and developed a deep love for the field. “What drew me to bariatric surgery was the opportunity to build long-term relationships with my patients,” she explains. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see these surgeries’ positive impact on their lives, not just physically but emotionally and mentally as well.”
