EL PASO, TX (July 15, 2020) – The Downtown Management District (DMD) is once again working with Sacred Heart Church, in support of the “Segundo Barrio Backpack Drive,” an effort to provide backpacks and school supplies for students in the El Segundo Barrioneighborhood of Downtown El Paso and surrounding areas.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted almost all facets of life, but what it can’t affect is the El Paso community’s commitment to coming together in an effort to support those in need. The DMD and Emajj Public Relations & Marketing are collecting monetary donations and challenge more El Paso businesses and their employees in collecting monetary contributions over the next few weeks.

This year’s drive will be a little different in order to ensure the safe collection and distribution of backpacks.

What we are doing differently this year and how you can help:

  • We are only accepting monetary donations. This will help us ensure that the materials we provide have had limited exposure to other people. We’re able to accept donations of $5 or more! Please DONATE here at DowntownElPaso.com!
  • We are partnering with a number of local nonprofits to ensure the safe distribution of backpacks to those in need.  Our partners include Sacred Heart Church, Emajj Public Relations and Marketing, the Center for Family Violence, and the Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home.
  • Monetary contributions can be made online now through Sunday, August 2nd. You can also mail/deliver monetary contributions to the Downtown Management District office, located at 201 E. Main Street, Suite 107.

Our goal this year is 550 backpacks filled with school supplies!  This will take approximately $14,000 in donations to achieve, and every little bit will help. We hope you can join us in this effort in supporting students in the El Segundo Barrio community.
