EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women’s tennis team learned on Tuesday that senior Dominique Ibarra has been named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Singles Player of the Week.
Ibarra went 3-0 over the first three matches of the WAC Cluster to extend her win streak to 10 in a row. She is now 10-2 in singles play this spring.
Ibarra opened the weekend with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Chicago State’s Anastasii Goncharova at the No. 1 spot. She followed with a three-set 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 victory over New Mexico State’s Rebecca Keijzerwaard.
She then closed out the weekend by not dropping a game to Seattle U’s Hannah Gianan with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
UTRGV will be back in action on April 1 when it hosts Stephen F. Austin at 1 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center in its final home match of the season.
