UTRGV takes home three other All-WAC Honors

BROWNSVILLE – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Thursday that senior Dominique Ibarra of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women’s tennis team is the WAC Player of the Year and a member of the Singles All-WAC First Team along with freshman Nethmi Waduge, while teaming with senior Marine Darzyan for First Team All-WAC Doubles honors, as voted on by the WAC’s head coaches.
Ibarra finished the WAC season undefeated with a 5-0 record and a 13-2 overall record this spring. She is currently riding a 13-match win streak and has not lost since January 19.
Ibarra and Daryzan went 4-1 in WAC play at the No. 1 spot while posting an 11-4 overall record this spring. The duo has won four straight matches.
Ibarra is tied with Leah Viloria (1988-91) for the second-most career singles victories with 64. Combined with 53 career doubles victories, Ibarra is the program’s leader in combined victories with 117.
Waduge finished WAC play with a 4-1 record while posting a 10-6 record this spring while playing at the No. 5 spot.
Fourth-seeded UTRGV will face No. 5 Chicago State on Friday at 9 a.m. in the opening round of the WAC Tournament at the Brownsville Tennis Center.
