Edinburg, Texas – The Hidalgo County District Clerk Office presented a check today in the amount of $3,000 to The Vannie E. Cook Jr. Cancer Foundation as part of their Blues for Bucks Workplace Fundraising Campaign to benefit local charitable organizations.The district clerk office kicked off their charitable efforts in 2008 and has since then collected over $43,000, which has been donated to charitable organizations throughout Hidalgo County.

“Our office is proud to support The Vannie E. Cook Jr. Cancer Foundation,” said Laura Hinojosa, Hidalgo County District Clerk. “This organization is  undeniably a valuable component to our community providing much needed quality medical services to young children in the region. We are are delighted and honored to be able to give back to our community who is so supportive of our families.”

Established more than forty years ago, the Foundation has a strong history of serving the South Texas community by supporting cancer-related patient care services and programs. In response to the need to provide care for children with cancer and blood disorders in the region, the Vannie E. Cook Jr. Cancer Foundation helped establish the Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children’s Cancer and Hematology Clinic in 2001.

“Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful community and organizations like the Hidalgo County District Clerk Office, no child has ever been denied care at the Vannie E. Cook Clinic,” said Laura Martinez-Ilgun, Foundation Executive Director. “We are so grateful for this incredible gift to help critically ill children in the Valley.”

The first state-of-the-art pediatric cancer and hematology facility in the region, the Clinic has provided care of the highest quality to thousands of young children, not one of which has been turned away for inability to pay.
