Edinburg, Texas – Laura Hinojosa, Hidalgo County District Clerk, deputized her staff today during a swearing-in ceremony at the Hidalgo County Courthouse. The oath, which was adminstered first thing in the morning, is required of Deputy District Clerks in order to perform all official acts of the office, specifically after the expiration of a term.
“This new year marks not only the beginning of a new term of office, but also the beginning of new opportunities, continued growth and progress,” said Hinojosa. “It is an honor to work with such hard working and dedicated employees and I look forward to continuing to work with them to better serve the public and the County of Hidalgo.”
Appointed officers, in this case Deputy District Clerks, are required to take an oath and a Statement of Officer, also known as the “bribery statement.” By taking the oath, appointees affirm to faithfully excute the duties of the office in accordance with the law. They further attest to not having accepted any bribe or anything of value, including the exchange of a vote for employment or appointment to an office.
Hinojosa was sworn in on new year’s day by her father, Congressman Rubén Hinojosa, during a small gathering with close friends and family. Her third term expires in December 2019.
