Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz re-introduced the Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act on Tuesday, January 7th. The legislation mandates that service-connected disability pay is excluded from eligibility requirements for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) assistance, ensuring fairness when seeking housing assistance. The legislation also mandates a comprehensive report to Congress on how such compensation is treated across all HUD-administered programs.

“Our veterans served our nation and deserve a debt of gratitude that can never truly be repaid,” De La Cruz said. “For veterans to have to fight red tape to receive the housing support they need and deserve is unconscionable. This legislation is a step towards righting this wrong, and I am proud to continue to champion housing access for our veterans.”

In the 118th Congress, Congresswoman De La Cruz’s Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act received wide, bipartisan support and passed the House of Representatives by voice. This legislation is a key part of supporting our veterans, which De La Cruz hopes is a priority of the 119th Congress. She looks forward to passage in both the House and Senate.
