Texas Border Business

HARLINGEN, Texas – In December 2019, Megan Trevino graduated with an associate degree in Digital Media Design from Texas State Technical College and a job offer from the San Benito Chamber of Commerce.
The 28-year-old is now the executive director at the San Benito Chamber and said she finally gets to do what she has been passionate about since high school: design and media.
“It all started in high school for me when I was in the yearbook,” said the Harlingen native. “I love being creative, and I love marketing. So when I decided to return to school, I enrolled at TSTC.”
How did TSTC prepare you for your career?
I am a one-person team, and my tasks are to design flyers and produce content for social media and other marketing materials. The hands-on training and experience I gained at TSTC have helped me in my position.
Who at TSTC had the most influence on your success?
All of my Digital Media Design instructors were really great. They always shared their knowledge and helped us grow our skills. They each had a different area of expertise, so I was able to learn a variety of digital media topics.
What are your future goals?
My goal is to open my own marketing/design agency to assist businesses with branding and digital marketing needs. I want my business to be a one-stop-shop, from building a marketing strategy to creating and producing content.
What advice do you have for other TSTC students?
I want students to realize that although college isn’t easy, it is definitely worth it. I’m a firm believer in higher education, and I hope students just keep pushing forward and never give up.
