The Department of Homeland Security announced a new nationwide advertising campaign today promoting the CBP Home app, a program designed to encourage individuals in the United States illegally to return to their home countries voluntarily.
According to DHS, the program offers financial assistance of up to $1,000, a free flight home, and the possibility of reentering the country legally in the future. Those who do not participate, the department stated, face āfines of thousands of dollars, detention, and forceful removal from the United States.ā
āThe CBP Home app gives aliens the option to leave now, and self deport, so they may still have the opportunity to return legally in the future and live the American dream,ā said Secretary Kristi Noem. āIf they donāt, we will find them, we will deport them, and they will never return.ā
DHS said the ad campaign will run on broadcast television and online platforms across the United States and internationally. The department stated it will be broadcast in multiple languages to reach as many individuals as possible.
Officials described the initiative as a way to provide āthe resources needed to take advantage of this incredibly generous opportunity granted to them by the United States government.ā The ads are targeted toward all individuals residing in the country without legal status.
