DHR Health is set to host its 18th Annual “Fishing for Hope” Tournament on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Jim’s Pier on South Padre Island, Texas. This fundraising event is vital in supporting the Hope Family Health Center of McAllen and Weslaco, which provides medical services to uninsured individuals and families in the Rio Grande Valley.
The tournament is not just about fishing; it’s an opportunity for the community to unite and make a meaningful impact. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Hope Family Health Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to offering free medical care, counseling, behavioral health services, and wellness programs to uninsured residents in the region. The center operates entirely through the dedication of volunteer physicians and medical staff.
A highlight of this year’s event is the special recognition of Dr. Alberto Gutierrez, who has served as the medical director and lead physician at the Hope Family Health Center for 24 years. Dr. Gutierrez’s compassionate care has provided thousands of uninsured individuals with crucial medical treatment at no cost. His retirement marks the end of an era, and the event will honor his significant contributions to the community.
The day’s activities will begin with a weigh-in at Jim’s Pier from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and an awards ceremony at the SPI Convention & Visitors Bureau from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. DHR Health physicians, hospital administrators, Hope Family Health Center representatives, anglers, special guests, and other supporters of the Fishing for Hope initiative will attend the event.
Marissa Castaneda, Senior Executive Vice President for DHR Health, will be the main point of contact for media inquiries.
This tournament highlights DHR Health’s and the community’s commitment to ensuring that quality healthcare remains accessible to all, regardless of insurance status.
