McALLEN, Texas – Today, Eric Holguín, a lifelong public servant and advocate for working-class communities, officially announced his campaign for Texas House District 41. Raised in South Texas, Holguín brings deep roots in the community and a proven record of experience and legislative results at both the state and national level.

“I’m running for State Representative because our community can’t afford anymore spectators who just sit on the sidelines. Too many families & small businesses are hurting because of the cruel & costly policies of Greg Abbott and Donald Trump,” said Holguín. “From investing in childcare access to lowering property taxes by having the state fund more of our public schools, to building more homes that people can afford and innovative job growth, the Texas Legislature needs to focus on improving Texans’ lives instead of constantly finding ways to punish us.”

Holguín currently serves as policy director for a national Hispanic civil rights organization, where he has advanced efforts to expand childcare for working parents, strengthen public education, and protect children from losing healthcare coverage. He brings a proven policy and legislative record to this race.

In 2019, he helped pass the Le Roy & Rosie Torres Act, creating a Texas registry for veterans suffering from burn pit exposure. In 2022, he was part of the team that secured the Honoring Our PACT Act — the largest veterans’ healthcare expansion in 45 years — now providing care to millions of veterans nationwide, including thousands in Hidalgo County. Most recently, he helped pass four new laws that make it easier to build homes that Texans can afford and worked to get summer meals for students to prevent hunger, a bipartisan measure ultimately vetoed by Governor Greg Abbott.

Holguín noted that this election is about fighting for the working class and making sure South Texans get actual results — not more of the same.

“Our community is looking for someone with the spine to fight and the experience to deliver. I know how to do that – I’ve paid my dues and done the work. I’ve built the relationships, I have the know-how, I have the success, and I’ll get to work on day one. It’s time we build a Texas where our kids can thrive, our families can afford to live, and our voices carry the power they deserve.”

Holguín’s campaign will center around three priorities:

• Stronger Paychecks: Secure innovative and diverse jobs that bring higher wages so working families can get ahead. This includes getting ahead of AI in the Valley.

• Lower Costs: Deliver property tax relief by having the state fund more of our public schools, cap prescription drug prices, and reduce the cost of living for renters and homeowners alike.

• Fair Opportunity: Invest in public education, expand childcare, and extend healthcare so every family has a fair shot at success.

Eric Holguín is a graduate of Sharyland High School (2005), earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and a Master of Public Affairs (public policy) from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas-Austin. Texas House District 41 encompasses McAllen, Sharyland (Mission), parts of Edinburg and Pharr.
